Frequently asked questions
What percentage of my donation goes on administration/fundraising?
We count ourselves very lucky, since Monsoon Accessorize Ltd pays for all the Trust's administration costs - including overheads and salaries. This means that we are in a wonderful position of being able to say that 100% of any donation from the public goes directly to the projects.
Where does the money for the projects come from?
The Trust is a small charity and a large proportion of our funding comes from the generous donations from Monsoon Accessorize Ltd. via the sale of charity products in our shops and sample sales. The rest is raised through fundraising activities, and donations from staff, from the public and from our suppliers.
How long has the Trust been running for?
The Trust was established in celebration of a milestone – Monsoon's 21st birthday. To find out more about our history, visit Our Story.
How do you decide which projects to support?
Projects need to meet our objectives of improving the lives of disadvantaged women and children in Asia, focusing predominantly on education, health and income generation. We try to focus on regions where our suppliers are located either now or historically, including communities in India, China and Afghanistan.
I'd like to get involved... how?!
We thought you'd never ask! There are so many ways to get involved, from volunteering at sample sales to fundraising activities, to making regular donations, to volunteering on some of the projects. You can even become a Trust Angel. Intrigued? Find out what suits you best by visiting the Get Involved section of our website.
Who can apply for funding?
We welcome applications for funding from all not-for-profit organizations in Asia working within their local communities on poverty alleviation programmes. (If that's you, please get in touch!)
We tend to favour projects located in areas where Monsoon and Accessorize have strong trading links and partnerships (both now and in the past), namely China, India and Afghanistan.
If you're an individual or a UK-based charity, sorry, you are not eligible for funding.
How long does funding last?
We mostly fund projects for one to three years.
Who decides where the money goes?
Proposals are reviewed regularly by the trustees, and funding is approved for eligible projects after a careful review of project suitability, proposal, accounts and activities. If a project is short-listed, we may visit the project for further assessment.
How are projects tracked?
We like to visit the projects as often as we can – and at least once every couple of years. We also ask projects to send us regular reports and updates, so that we stay in close touch.

How can I find out financial information about the Trust?
Do you have a patron?
Yes! We're very proud to have Jodie Kidd as our patron. Jodie, a previous 'Face of Monsoon', is a committed fund-raiser (seen here selling samples in aid of the Trust on the Portobello Road with company chairman, Peter Simon) and has twice visited projects in India.
